This vibrant blanket design is based on a painting by Two Spirit artist Ryan Young (Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa) that calls out to their community's traditional story about crows. https://eighthgeneration.com/collecti... The story goes that the crow was once very colorful and had a beautiful singing voice, but during a forest fire, it spent so much time trying to help the other animals that it's colorful feathers turned black and it's beautiful singing voice turned hoarse. To Ryan, the story makes a statement about conventional ideas of beauty that focus on what is on the outside instead of the inside, and the notion of sacrificing beauty to help others. This is the first ever production blanket honoring Two Spirit people, and we are very excited to be working with an artist who centers Two Spirit representation and empowerment in their artwork and beyond.
