First Look Inside Victoria Cross Station - Sydney Metro City & South West Community Open Day

On 25 February 2024, the new Victoria Cross Metro Station opened its doors to the public for a community open day. I was extremely excited to see inside this new station in North Sydney, as most of it was excavated underground. This includes the station platforms and mezzanine levels that are within the largest rail cavern in Australia! Victoria Cross Metro Station has two entrance buildings. The main southern entrance that provides access from Miller Street and Denison Street, and is in the heart of the North Sydney CBD area. The smaller northern entrance building is on the corner of Miller Street and McLaren Street, and is unique in only having lifts. And that's because the platforms are 50 metres below ground. It's the deepest point on the Sydney Metro City & Southwest Extension. You'll get a tour of the new Victoria Cross Metro Station and learn about how it was constructed, along with the materials and architectural finishes used. This video features fascinating interviews with Hugh Lawson and other people involved in building this iconic new metro station in North Sydney. I also cover the 42 storey Victoria Cross integrated commercial station development that is being built above the new Victoria Cross Metro Station. However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made.
