She was married in her twenties, had four children, did the usual morning drop off at school, and was the social centre of her family. It was at her home where the Abbotts often met for their gatherings, which always included the now elderly parents, Richard and Fay. But in 2003, her life took a drastic change. She fell in love with another woman—Victoria Edwards. Forster had to come out to her famously tight-knit Catholic family. At the time, it was her brother, Tony Abbott, and his wife Margie, who were the most supportive. With the introduction of the Marriage Equality Bill into the House of Representatives this week the media interest in Forster's life is at an all-time high.
