Measuring the Impacts of the Preempt-RT Patch - Maxime Chevallier, Smile The Real-Time Patch (also called Preempt-RT) allows for soft real-time performances using the Linux kernel. It is getting easier to find some good documentation on fine-tuning and benchmarking the real-time capabilities of a system. When applying the Preempt-RT patch, you should also consider the non real-time related impacts on a system. In this talk, Maxime will present the different performance improvements and deteriorations that you can expect when using the Preempt-RT patch, based on real-life use cases. This will be the occasion to dig into the Preempt-RT patch to see why some aspects of the system behave differently, focusing on raw computing, network, and I/O performances. Maxime will also give some feedback from a developer standpoint on what it means to maintain a BSP that uses the RT-Patch. About Maxime Chevallier Maxime Chevallier is an embedded Linux engineer at Smile ECS (Embedded and Connect Systems), a French company specialized in open-source embedded technologies. Maxime works for various customers where he develops and maintains yocto and buildroot-based BSPs and some custom Linux drivers on ARM and x86 platforms. Maxime gave multiple talks on the support of Bluetooth in Linux, Linux Power-Management and the RT-patch at meet-ups and at 'Capitole du Libre', a French open-source focused event in Toulouse.
