Akbar-19 Vs Dikash-21 wheat varieties || Crop Reformer

In this video, we have briefed about the Salient Features of Wheat Variety Akbar 2019. Akbar 2019 has performed very well during previous 2-3 year. It has established its supremacy even under terminal heat stress conditions as prevailed during previous year. Its photosynthetic efficiency is better and yield potential of plus 70 maunds per acre has been declared by the breeders of this variety. It may be planted throughout irrigated Punjab, is medium to high stature variety, fairly resistant to insects, diseases and lodging, suggested for mid-season planting and seed rate of 50 kg/acre is suggested for better performance. However, in spite of several good features, its shattering behavior is not accepted in the farmers. Wheat grain of most varieties was shriveled due to earlier heat wave during the ripening process last rabi season. Total wheat production was reduced due to accelerated maturity and bold seed is rarely available in the market. In this video, we have explained that shriveled seeds have potential to germinat and even of farmers own seed may be used for planting this year. Out of total seed requirement, 25% of wheat seed is commonly provided through private companies and seed corporation. The rest of 75 % wheat seed is cultivated by the farmers from their domestic resources. Sometimes certified seed supplied by the private companies and seed corporation does not look certified. Compensation of such complaint of poor-quality seed are not easily possible due to very complicated judicial system of Pakistan. In order to avoid such complications, farmers have been advised to prepare wheat seed in their own fields. Seed preparation is not a complicated process. It can easily be prepared following the specific cautious measures. In this video, we have advised the farmers to prepare wheat seed in their own fields. For this purpose, recent varieties should be preferred. Seed of Akbar 2019, Gazi, Dilkash 2021, MH 2021, Subhani 2021, Fateh Jang 2016, Fakhr e Bhaker and Bhaker Star and other advanced varieties should be preferred for this purpose. After the complete earing but before the physiological maturity stage, off type plants should be roughed out. Prominent plants of weed species should also be hand pulled before seed setting. Only healthy field and standing crop should be selected for seed purpose. Lodged wheat should not be selected. Harvesting and threshing processes of different varieties should be done separately and carefully. Combined harvester and threshers are major source of seed admixture. Harvested wheat should be stored at 10% moisture level. There is no need of fumigants for 1st two months after harvesting. However, 10 tablets of Phstoxin/ton of wheat seed should be used during monsoon season to avoid stored grain pests losses. At wheat research institute Faisalabad, track record of more than hundred wheat varieties has been maintained to judge their characters and qualities on regular bases. Research on wheat varieties is on of the main and essential functions of Ayub Research Faisalabad. Why new varieties are evolved continuously and old run out with the passage of time. Simple reason is that they lose their resistance against diseases (Rust) and production capacity. Most farmers can not maintain their purity and old varieties run out. Some of the long lasting varieties like Pak-81, inqilab-91 and Faisalabad-2008 have record performance of 10 to 15 years but most have three to seven years only. Wheat research institute (AARI) Faisalabad’s verities are dominantly grown all over Punjab, parts of Sindh and KPK. This institute is developing new varieties under the scenario of changing weather and climate conditions. In this connection, three new varieties of wheat crop wiz Dilkash-2021, Subhani-2021 and MH-2021 have been evolved which have compact, white ear, bold grain size, medium stature, very high resistance against rust and yield potential of 70 maunds and even more in some cases. Dilkash variety is for mid-season and really attractive (دلکش) during its tilering stage.
