2024 Free Webinar Series #1 - Interpreting in Education: Navigating the Parent-Teach Conference

Live session: January 10, 2024, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ET Presenter: Judy Cortés Across U.S. schools, parent-teacher conferences keep parents up to date and involved in the progress of their child. When teachers communicate with a parent not fluent in English, a qualified interpreter is key to providing successful exchanges between the parties. To achieve this goal, the educational interpreter will need to ensure principles from the code of ethics are observed (such as AAITE’s recently published National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Education). Additionally, it is important that the interpreter sets the stage with an initial briefing that clarifies the interpreter’s role. This webinar will analyze the roles of each participant in the encounter and address interpreter protocols, preparation, and common challenges to effective communication. ► Get CCC’s newest book Introduction to Educational Interpreting and Translation by today’s presenter, Judy Cortés: https://www.cultureandlanguage.net/pr... ► Check out the Cross-Cultural Communications website: https://www.cultureandlanguage.net/ ► Register for upcoming webinars: https://www.interpretertraining-onlin... ► See our online courses, both live and self-paced: https://learn.tcio.net/ ► Contact us: [email protected] Timestamps 0:00 Introduction 04:39 About Judy Cortés 07:38 Presentation - Interpreting in Education: Navigating the Parent-teacher conference 52:03 Q&A
