Rickenbacker 330 Mapleglo: King Of The Jangle!!

Welcome to a guitar I've always dreamed of owning! Ever since I heard the early Tom Petty records, I've wanted to one day own a Rickenbacker. There was something about those glassy, thin, chimey tones that have always really resonated with me. So when a 330 in Mapleglo (my favourite colour for a Ricky!) cropped up on eBay, it really grabbed my interest. And when it didn't sell for the asking price, I messaged the seller to see if we could negotiate a buy-it-now. We did - but that left me with the slight problem of not having the cash! So I hatched a plan to sell a load of pedals and my Dr Z DB4 amplifier - involving a trip to GuitarGuitar in Birmingham, on to Wolverhampton to meet the guitar, and then all the way back to Bristol. But it all came off: I owned a Rickenbacker! But as is my way, I couldn't leave the thing alone in my pursuit of 'vintage' tone...the stock High Gain pickups were cool, but they weren't THE sound I was chasing. It wasn't as bright as I wanted it to be - and it was a little too Telecaster-like in the twangy midrange. So with some Creamery '63 Toaster Top pickups, along with some vintage-correct electronics, the high-pass capacitor wired onto a switch, some Capri-style bakelite knobs and a Mastery M5 bridge...everything began to sound 'right'. Today, this is an introduction to a guitar you're going to be seeing a LOT more of going forwards....my beautiful blonde Ricky! What do you think? Classic tone? Or too 'off the wall'? Comment below!
