Video shows our visit to the magnificent Shugborough Estate in Staffordshire. Described as a paradise a rich blend of landscape, monuments, gardens and architecture, shaped by exploration and global encounters. The highlight is the appartment of the internationally renowned photographer Patrick Lichfield with many photographs of the rich and famous of 60s and 70s culture including Brit Ekland and Mick Jagger. Renowned for lavish parties the apartments offer a fascinating insight into the era. The House has been home to the Anson family since 1624 and was shaped by two brothers Thomas Anson, born 1695 and his younger brother George born in 1697. The beautiful gardens at Shugborough include a walled garden, formal gardens and arboretum with Impressive formal terraces leading down to the River Sow. After his Grand Tour of Europe, Thomas Anson came home and wanted to make Shugborough his own perfect paradise. His landscape creation was ground-breaking as it included some of the first neo-Greek structures in the country by architect Thomas Wright. Wright’s first creation was the Chinese House in 1747. This was designed to celebrate George Anson’s visit to China and triumphal return to Britain.
