He's the owner/operator of Frozen Trident, a dog kennel he and his family founded in 2018 in Two Rivers, Alaska: the dog-mushing capital of the world. He's an Iditarod racer, having received the Red Lantern Award after racing with his own dogs along the wildly difficult long-distance annual sled dog race traveling 938 miles from Anchorage to Nome. He's also a former SEAL, having served 9 years with SEAL Team 4 with two kinetic deployments in Afghanistan. But Jeff wasn't always a dog guy - he never even owned one growing up, in fact. It wasn't until his platoon met a stray dog named Frank on his second deployment in Afghanistan that things really started to change. So how's a Pennsylvania native end up deploying to Afghanistan, serving at the Tip of the Spear, retiring to Alaska, and competing in one of the coldest, most difficult races in the country? Let's meet Jeff. ---------- Chapters: 00:00 - Intro 02:51 - Two Rivers: The Dog-Mushing Capital of the World 04:29 - Wolves, Moose, and My Alaskan EDC 08:27 - Waking Up In Alaska 14:42 - Growing Up in Pennsyltucky 20:00 - Boot Camp to BUD/S 29:29 - Polishing the Bell at BUD/S Class 271 39:00 - Welcome to SEAL Team 4 44:49 - Landing in Kandahar 56:29 - How to Smuggle A Dog Out of Afghanistan 01:11:38- Crossing the Rainbow Bridge 01:18:33 - Off with a Bang on Deployment #2 01:29:17 - Well Performing Operations 01:35:30 - Funneling Towards Exit 01:45:07 - Building a Dog-Mushing Training Kennel at Frozen Trident 01:59:42 - Breeding a Winning Iditarod Team 02:10:43 - How Much Does All This Cost, Anyway? 02:15:20 - Do You Remember Our First Conversation Together? 02:19:43 Alaskan Living Conditions 02:21:28 - Prepping for the Iditarod 02:33:45 - The Prime Years of a Sled Dog 02:39:03 - Racing The Iditarod 03:46:58 - So What's Harder - Iditarod or BUD/S? 03:49:37 - How It Could've Gone Wrong 03:51:33 - Feeding with Teamdog 03:56:41 - The Post-Race Hot Wash 04:05:51 - Patreon Questions 04:18:25 - What's Next? ---------- Support Jeff Reid - Website: https://www.frozentrident.com Instagram:   / frozentrident   ---------- Sponsors: Beam Take advantage of Beam's biggest sale of the year and get up to 40% off for a limited time when you go to https://www.shopbeam.com/MIKEDROP and use promo code MIKEDROP at checkout! ---------- TEAM DOG FOOD, TREATS & SUPPLEMENTS Be Your Dog’s Hero: Veteran-owned by a former Navy SEAL and Special Operations K9 Trainer, Team Dog provides a complete diet of science-backed premium dog food, treats, and supplements to optimize your dog’s health, forged from rigorous standards and real-world expertise. https://www.teamdog.shop TEAM DOG ONLINE TRAINING Mike Ritland – a former Navy SEAL & Special Operations K9 trainer – shares his simple and effective dog training program to build trust and control with your dog.
