Intro to General MIDI Retro-scope - as seen at VCF Midwest 2024

In this video we combine the DREAM SAM 2695 IC, a DIY MIDI interface for the Foenix F256 Jr., the Aturia MiniLAB 3 keyboard (~ $99 USD), and a piece of custom software that I am actively developing, intended to provide a 'byte-scope' interpretation of MIDI message, useful in sound effect design for gaming, among other uses. Speaking of gaming, GM Retro-scope includes a hidden game mode, built from artifacts of a few classic video games, just for fun. Did you know that the upcoming release of the Foenix F256K2 will include a DREAM SAM 2695 IC onboard, included with the price of admission. The system also can be ordered with optional MIDI IN and OUT ports, but MIDI ports are not necessary to play (and hear) software developed which uses the DREAM device. The gaming portion of MIDI Retro-scope is one such application and as soon as I have the opportunity, I'll be porting it to the F256K2. Additional info: The ATARI 8-bit interface (I could not recall the name of) was indeed the "MIDIMATE" by Hybrid Arts, released around 1986. Worth stating that the MIDIMATE was an SIO device, that is the ATARI I/O bus, which was shared with their floppy systems, cassette tape, printer and serial I/O, etc. Michael St. Pierre's board design, which is based on earlier works, is MIDIMATE compatible and thus, also sits on SIO. In Michael's design (the green PCB I leverage and feature from the first minute of the video) used a PIC12 IC with some custom code that he wrote in GCBasic. Since I'm not using SIO, I adapted his circuit for the DREAM IC and integration to the F256 Feather I/O footprint. If you look closely at my assembly, you'll notice a number of unpopulated components and wiring inserted (from below) to a number of positions on Michael's original circuit.
