Smart Cruise Control, available on select Kia models, makes driving even more enjoyable. Smart Cruise Control, or SCC, allows you to maintain a predetermined speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, automatically adjusting the speed, as needed, to maintain the flow of traffic. So, when traffic slows down, SCC automatically slows down your Kia. It can even bring your Kia to a complete stop without depressing the brake pedal. Then, when the vehicle ahead starts to move, Smart Cruise Control re-engages and your Kia starts to move. But if the lead vehicle is stopped for more than three seconds, then you must re-engage Smart Cruise Control by pressing the SCC RESUME button on the steering wheel or by pressing the accelerator. To use Smart Cruise Control, accelerate to your desired speed and press the Driving Assist or Cruise Control button on the steering wheel and the vehicle speed will be set. The Cruise indicator will illuminate on the instrument cluster. Pressing up on “PLUS” will increase the set speed… While pressing down on “MINUS” reduces the speed. Press the middle of this button to pause or resume Smart Cruise Control. When SCC is active, you can adjust the vehicle-to-vehicle distance by pressing the Vehicle Distance button: Each time you press this button, it will scroll through the different vehicle-to-vehicle distances on the instrument cluster – less bars indicates less distance between vehicles. To cancel SCC operation, you can press the brake pedal. And to turn off the SCC system, press the Driving Assist or Cruise Control button again and the cruise indicator light on the instrument cluster will turn off. Select Kia models also feature Smart Cruise Control that learns the driver’s habits the more they drive… then, SCC automatically adjusts to mirror those habits. For example, it can learn your preferred following distance… or your acceleration style and your reaction speed. To activate this feature, from the infotainment system screen, press SETUP… Then VEHICLE… You’ll see DRIVER ASSISTANCE and VEHICLE SETTINGS… Select SMART CRUISE CONTROL… And finally, select BASED ON DRIVING STYLE. Now, SCC will adjust settings automatically. All this makes driving your Kia feel more natural. You can also select DRIVING STYLE SETTINGS to check your driving style… and adjust the settings manually. Select models also feature OVERTAKING ACCELERATION ASSIST… When SCC is operating, if the system judges that the driver is going to pass another vehicle, then acceleration may be assisted to complete the pass. Smart Cruise Control can also change the rate of acceleration based on the current Drive Mode. For example, in Normal mode, acceleration is at a normal rate. In Eco mode, acceleration will be slow. In Sport mode, the rate of acceleration will be fast. And in Snow mode, if equipped, acceleration is normal.
