China claims breakthrough in analog semiconductor chips: 3,000 times faster than Nvidia

Scientists at Tsinghua University have developed a new chip which they claim is 3,000 times faster than Nvidia's A100 chip. By harnessing light signals and photons, instead of electricity, their chip is a quantum leap beyond in terms of efficiency. The chip is analog, so will not be used hardware systems that require versatility and simultaneous functionality. It is ideal, however, for large markets such as wearables, image recognition, smart factories, and driver-assisted technologies.
