9-17 update: These were so good that I canned 9 more quarts yesterday! I used all Golden Delicious this time and they held their shape perfectly. When it was mid-August, I sincerely thought I was finished with canning for the season. I don't know what I thought I was going to do with all of those apples on the trees...buy yet another refrigerator to store them in? Give them all away? So...I canned them--better than last year's attempt. This time, I used half brown sugar and cooked a large cinnamon stick (from Sri Lanka, thanks to my brother) in with the syrup. Turned out much tastier and not artificial like those red hot candy apples I used to see on buffet tables!Just had these as a topping for vanilla ice cream--subtle cinnamon flavor was great! #cinnamon #canningseason #apples
