After 4 years away, HMV have reopened their iconic flagship store at 363 Oxford Street in London! So let's head inside and have a look around this amazing revamped home of physical media! Sunrise Records and Entertainment, trading as HMV (for His Master's Voice, also known as The HMV Shop), is a British music and entertainment retailer, currently operating in the European countries of United Kingdom, Ireland and Belgium. The first HMV-branded store was opened by the Gramophone Company on London's Oxford Street in 1921, and the HMV name was also used for television and radio sets manufactured from the 1930s onwards. The retail side of the business began to expand in the 1960s. HMV stands for His Master's Voice, the title of a painting by Francis Barraud of Nipper listening to a Phonograph cylinder, bought by the Gramophone Company in 1899. HMV's company slogan as of 2023 as depicted on the official website and advertising banners is vinyl ● music ● film and TV ● pop culture ● turntables. HMV stores stock a range of products including audio, Blu-rays, CDs, audio cassettes, vinyl records, DVDs, record players and headphones as well as an increasing range of film, television and music merchandise.
