I went clamming again on the Oregon coast, and I caught some of the biggest clams ever. This time, I used a garden rake to dig for clams. The best time to go clamming is during a low tide (especially a negative tide where the mud flats will expose the clams for easy digging). The cockles we found were about 2-3 inches below surface underwater, many were right on the surface, and you can see them easily. Clamming season is open year round in Oregon.
