So what to see in Montenegro? Here are my top 5 places you must visit in this small country of great contrasts: 1. #budva If you like lively resorts, this city will definitely meet your expectations. Budva is the most popular town in the coastal part of Montenegro, constantly competing for tourists with Dubrovnik in Croatia. The city itself charms with its stone buildings, beautiful and interesting old town, wonderful port and picturesque beaches. 2. #kotor This is the pearl in the crown of the Montenegrin coast. Already at the beginning of the tourist season, it is noisy and crowded, but worth seeing due to its well-preserved, vast old town, recognized by UNESCO. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate with lots of sunny days, everything grows in Boka Kotorska: palm trees, agaves, ripening apricots, peaches, kiwi, pomegranates, oranges, lemons and vines. 3. #niagarafalls Although much smaller than its American namesake, it is impressive and can certainly be considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in this country, located near the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, on the Cijevna River. A wonderful place that is not yet visited by crowds of tourists, so you can enjoy the view of its turquoise water in peace. 4. #svetistefan A postcard town that should not be missed when visiting Montenegro. The fortress is located on a rocky island between Budva and Petrovac na Moru, and is connected to the mainland only by a narrow road on which the waves of the Adriatic Sea crash. Seen from a drone, the stone, low buildings with red roof tiles tightly placed next to each other, with green trees rising into the sky between them, are impressive, but only a few can get into the interior of the former fishing village - it is currently a luxury hotel. It is definitely worth taking a walk along the sea, as well as the picturesque park located right next to it, and seeing what the island of Sveti Stefan looks like from a distance. 5. #skadar The largest freshwater reservoir on the Balkan Peninsula, located on the border of Montenegro and Albania. The rivers flowing into it create meandering branches, between which there are spectacular wetlands. The lake is included in the so-called disappearing attractions of Montenegro, because in summer the water surface decreases from 600 km² to even 350 km². An interesting fact is that this water paradise is a refuge for almost half of all migratory birds found in Europe, and is also home to numerous species of fish, including carp, which are said to weigh up to 40 kg. Legend has it that God/Thor/Spaghetti Monster/whoever you believe in, walked around the world with a bag and pulled out something beautiful for everyone: mountains and sea, and when he was traveling through Montenegro, he tripped and everything spilled out.
