Oakham Pageant (1947)

Unused / unissued footage - dates and locations unclear / unknown. Oakham, Leicestershire (formerly Rutland) - 1947. Short general shots of the town of Oakham. A police band leads a procession of RAF men carrying rifles down the crowd lined street followed by a small group of Brownies and floats depicting historical scenes. Signs on the front of the floats read 'Fight For Rutland's Independence'. A Huntsman with a pack of hounds follows. General shots of people milling about a display ground where the floats are gathered. A little historical scene is acted out by costumed people on a float. On another, two men have a boxing match in Victorian costume - the referee has to hold onto his pillow belly so it doesn't fall out! Good shots of Oakham pageant. Shot of a man walking along a platform at the railway station. C/U of the name on the platform "OAKHAM". C/U of a poster on the front of a car reading 'Fight For Rutland's Independence - Have You Signed The Petition?' Several shots of old buildings, a church and stocks in the deserted town. According to old database record, this item originally included a commentary by John Parsons on the pageant - this soundtrack is currently missing. FILM ID:2170.01 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
