Sometimes it will be because of the people that you meet there. Sometimes it will be because of the experiences that you shared there with the loved ones and friends. And then other times, it may be because of the sear beauty of a place that will forever leave an impression on you. Homer is one of those places for us and for all three reasons listed above. The beauty, the memories and the people who we were so excited to see again on this second visit! We stayed on our friends’, Ashton and Amanda, new homestead overlooking the mountains and glaciers across the bay and got to make a new friend, Jet, from Holland who was helping out on the farm. Ashton and Amanda fulfilled a dream that we have had for the last 6 years since we were in Homer last: crossing the bay from the Homer Spit to the state park for some time on the water and an amazing hike to China Poot Lake. We had a quick stop at Gull Island to check out some Oyster Catchers and Bald Eagles and got to see one of the 11 lighthouses in Alaska! On the way home, we stopped in Halibut Cove to check out one of the coolest coffee shops we have ever seen and walk the raised boardwalk that circles the island! After a quick race back into the marina, we headed back to the farm for a movie on the outside of the Lineage! Stay tuned for next week as we finally get to go fishing for some Alaskan salmon!
