Things to consider when buying your own synthetic jacket: Make sure its sheet insulation make sure its actually a LOT of insulation, it takes much more synthetic insluation to actually have a warm jacket, many synthetic jackets just dont have that much insulation. Make sure the quality of the insulation is extremely hydrophobic How well does the insulation retain its loft? How heavy is it, many jackets are very heavy and even have less unsulation What purpose are you going to use it for? Bush wacking? then make sure to get a shell or a more traditional jacket Are you going to be in REALLY cold temps? if not maybe a less intense jacket would be better for you. SIZING: I am 61, I got the SIZE M!!! So important. The size M is huge on me, its even bigger than my other jackets which are all XL or L. Keep in mind its a belay jacket meant as the outer most layer even to go over a rain shell. Size S or M would be good for most people. If you are small, good luck.
