It was difficult for me to figure out just how much of a difference removing my hot mirror would make for photos in IR and UV, and just what kind of difference it would make for my regular photos. I found that a lot of the advice I had been given was subjective, so I put a quick comparison of filters together. First I show two different hot mirror filters, a Spencer's Camera IR/UV block filter and a B+W 486M. Then you get to see what an infrared filter looks like both using the hot mirror and without. Finally the spectrum is shifted to Ultraviolet and the same hot mirrors are compared, along with a UV(0) Hoya filter. This video uses a Nikon D3s with full spectrum conversion (hot mirror is removed and clear glass is inserted).
