In lifters who respond well to it, creatine can be an effective supplement for improving training performance and providing a small increase in lean muscle growth. But is creatine safe for teens? I get this question all the time from younger lifters who aren't sure if they should begin supplementing with it now or wait until they're older. The simple answer to the question of "is creatine safe for teenagers" is that, from a pure physical standpoint, age really isn't a factor when it comes to creatine safety. Whether a lifter is 17 or 70, creatine supplements shouldn't produce any unwanted side effects as long as it's used properly and the individual doesn't have any pre-existing health conditions. So, from a physiological standpoint, creatine can certainly be included on the list of bodybuilding supplements for teens in those who are serious about their training. The only potential issue I see on the issue of creatine use in teens is if it's being used as some sort of "quick fix" by those who aren't following a proper training and nutrition plan. Keep in mind that creatine will only provide a very modest boost in the overall picture, and 95%+ of your gains are still going to come down to basic hard work in and out of the gym. If you're using it to try and "put on a quick 10 pounds" like I've heard so many times before, you're completely wasting your time and money. So, is creatine safe for teens? Yes, but I'd only recommend it to those who are putting in the consistent work and who understand its minor role in their overall teen bodybuilding program. Just make sure to stick with basic creatine monohydrate, and consume 3-5g once per day. There's no need to pay more for any other form, and you don't need a dosage any higher than this.
