2002 Yamaha r1 rebuild part 1

I never worked on an engine before let alone knew how they actually functioned. Besides having a basic knowledge on how an engine works I trusted my curiosity and my passion for figuring things out to help me rebuild my first motorcycle. I bought this r1 from one of my managers over a year ago. He gave me a really good deal, told me about the damage it had, sent me pictures and told me everything he knew that had to be replaced. He even gave me a hitch to carry the motorcycle on as part of the deal. I don’t actually use it so if any of you need/ want one I’ll sell for it great deal! I first started by looking through the service manual to get familiar with all the components and just to learn how everything works for my own pleasure. Before I began to work on the bike my plan was to get it running, make it safe to ride and sell it for a profit. Although, for those that know me also know that I’ve always wanted to own my own motorcycle. My parents were always against it so I was always told no. So by the time I got it running and it was okay to take it out I realized that I couldn’t let this one go that easily. There is so much more footage that I can’t get access to so please don’t think this happened in a couple of days or weeks. There was so much work involved to get it to where it is now. This is my journey on how I rebuilt my first motorcycle.
