Snake Dike, 5.7R June 17, 2017 Snake dike is the easiest climbing route up Half Dome, ascending its southern tip for 8 pitches of roped climbing and ~1000' of low angle slab. Starting at the valley floor involves a total of 15 miles of hiking and nearly a mile of elevation change. It's a big day, but you get to the top of Half Dome! There were around 5 groups already waiting when we got to the base of the climb. A very very slow party early in the day backed up everyone, throwing off our schedule completely. Luckily we were able to get off the summit before sunset, and brought our headlamps for the hike out. Left car: 6:45 AM Base of the climb: 11:00 AM Started climb: 3:30 PM Finished roped section of the climb: 6:30 PM Summit: 7:30 PM Headed down the cables: 7:45 PM Back at the car: 1:00 AM
