The prayer book is a collection of thoughts and concerns of the Jewish people across the ages. Additionally, for more than a thousand years, the siddur book has been the tool teaching Jews about Jewish thought and our relationship with God. Using the Shabbat morning service, we will delve into the historical reasons for the development of various prayers, the theology being expressed (as well as what is being denied), and how the liturgy is constructed in a deeply meaningful form. Each session will be independent, so participants are encouraged to attend as many as they choose. The same session will be offered in person twice weekly and we will use Siddur Lev Shalem as our source. Suggested Reading: "To Pray as a Jew" by Hayim Halevy Donin.
