The Cape Wrath Trail boasts some of the best long distance hiking Scotland has to offer, and is one of the most wild and remote hiking trails in the UK! It also has some fantastic wild camping locations and great bothies along the route. In September 2023 we set off on a mission to hike The Cape Wrath Trail! My friend Steve turned 77 years old this year and decided the best time to walk the Cape Wrath Trail would be sooner rather than later! We hadn’t realised however, the Storm Agnes was on the horizon, and we would be faced with hiking and wild camping in some very severe weather! The trail is just over 230 miles long, so we initially set ourselves a goal of trying to hike from the starting point Camusnagaul (across the water from Fort William) upto the Cape Wrath lighthouse in 21 days. I have to say, so far it is already one of the most scenic Scottish hiking trails I have started, with some beautiful wild camping spots.
