Ich bin zurück von meiner Reise in die Vereinigten Staaten! Wie ihr euch sicher denken könnt habe ich viel erlebt, natürlich werde ich das eine oder andere davon mit euch in Form von Videos teilen. Nun aber der Reihe nach: Einer der Hauptgründe für meine Reise war die berühmte IPMS National Convention (kurz: "Nats"), die größte Veranstaltung zum Thema Modellbau in Nordamerika. Mit einer Entfernung von 7.500km von meinem Wohnort war dies die am weitesten entfernte Modellbau-Ausstellung, die ich bisher besucht habe. Ähnlich wie bei manchen ost- und südeuropäischen Veranstaltungen lag auch hier der Fokus klar auf dem Wettbewerb, der mit einigen tausend Modellen reichlich und hochkarätig bestückt war, sowie dem Händlerbereich, wo man eine tolle Auswahl an Produkten vorfand. Auch die Organisation und das Ambiente überzeugten vollständig. Besonders schön fand ich die herzliche Art der Amerikaner und der internationalen Besucher. Im Gegensatz zu anderen "Wettbewerben" kam man hier sehr leicht ins Gespräch, was immer zu einem bereichernden Austausch führte. Dazu gehörten nicht nur die Fachgespräche vor Ort, sondern auch die Einladungen zu diversen geselligen Abenden! Mein besonderer Dank gilt daher Mike und Dave des "Plastic Model Mojo Podcast" für die herzliche Aufnahme in deren verrückte Modellbau-Tafelrunde! Ihr merkt schon, das war eine runde Sache! I had a great time there and got to experience a lot of things, some of that will be shared with you in form of videos at some point. But i get ahead of myself: One of the main reasons for my journey was the famous IPMS National Convention (short: "Nats"), the biggest scale modelling event in North America. With a distance of 7.500km from my home this was the furthest model show i have ever visited so far. Similar to many eastern and southern European events the focus was clearly on the competition area, which was filled with thousands of awesome models, as well as the vendor area with an impressive array of products. The organisation and the ambient were excellent, too. What i liked the most was the truly cordial nature of the Americans and the international visitors. In contrast to many other "competitions" it was easy to chat with people, which always lead to an enriching exchange of thoughts. This did not only include the expert talks at the venue, but also invitations to various convivial evenings! My special thanks go therefore again to Mike and Dave of the "Plastic Model Mojo Podcast" for my cordial inclusion into their crazy scale modelling round table!
