Structure of a Tooth

Structure of a Tooth - • A tooth consists of enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp tissue. • The portion of a tooth exposed to the oral cavity is known as the dental crown, and the portion below the dental crown is known as the tooth root. • Each tooth has three main parts: the crown, neck, and root. • The crown is the visible part of the tooth. • A protective layer called enamel covers it. • The neck is the area of the tooth between the crown and the root. • The root is the part of the tooth that extends through the gum and into the jawbone. • Enamel — the outermost layer of the tooth. • Dentin — the layer of the tooth under the enamel. • The root is the part of the tooth that extends into the bone and holds the tooth in place. • The root canal is a passageway that contains pulp • Pulp is the innermost and softest layer of teeth.
