Cast Glass Scupltor Di Tocker shares the glass finishing techniques - Indicator series (part 3)

See how I finish my latest glass casting project, a new series of cast glass artworks called 'Indicators'. Born out of the need to be resourceful during the Covid 19 pandemic, I am casting a new small series of glass artworks using 'reclaimed' studio glass. Recycling the lead crystal off-cuts from gallery glass pieces will enable me to offer the 'Indicator' pieces direct from my studio and website https://www.ditocker.nz/ In this video I will show you divesting (removing) the plaster/silica molds from the glass. I will saw the glass sculptures with the diamond saw and grind the cast glass pieces using an water-fed angle grinder. Then finally I will polish the glass using a linisher / wet belt sander and cerium oxide Check out my last 2 videos (part 1 and 2) where I discuss glass colour selection, my thought process behind designing a new series and share how I work with wax for the method of lost wax casting. Part 2 looks at making plaster / silica mold for the kiln, steaming out the modelling wax and loading the glass kiln. I welcome your comments.
