Both HO and SO also received later oil sumps with extra 2 quarts of oil and extended oil change interval. lastly and most importantly in my opinion was that ford put a new emission system on the powerstroke engine. this new emission system comes with a separate fuel doser directly into the DPF or what some people like to call the 9th injector. this means that when these engines regen they will no longer be over fueling the entire engine and possibly diluting the engine oil with fuel which is a very nice upgrade for these engines. the only real mechanical difference between the HO and SO powerstroke engines is that the High output engine is getting a water cooled compressor housing to help cool boost air and stainless steam exhaust manifolds to help deal with the extra exhaust heat. thats it. obviously the HO will be getting a much difference tune but in terms of mechanical differences there are no many. I personally think the bigger story is that the SO output got so many updated along side the HO.
