Learning is easier when we break things down into smaller parts, for our horses and for us. So here I discuss the elements of Lateral Work with your horse, so that if you are having trouble with this, you can focus on each element separately until you have achieved competence and then put all the elements together. Lateral work is important for your horse to do regularly to improve his suppleness and overall softness, and for the rider to maintain balanced control of the horses body and mind, as communication cannot flow properly through a horse that is not soft. Lateral work also helps your horse with things such as canter departure, and with many other aspects of your horses rideability and general soundness. Lateral work is also a great tool to use to enhance your horse's learning of moving away from pressure, as they need to do this with ease during well performed lateral work. 🚗 ✈️ I travel nationally and internationally for Clinics.
