Sposalizio. Franz Liszt was a prominent Hungarian composer and virtuoso pianist born on October 22, 1811, in Raiding, Hungary. He displayed prodigious talent from a young age, beginning piano lessons with his father, Adam Liszt, a musician himself. By the age of nine, Liszt was performing publicly and soon moved to Vienna for further education under notable teachers like Carl Czerny and Antonio Salieri. Liszt's early career was marked by extensive touring across Europe, where he gained fame for his extraordinary piano skills and charismatic performances, a phenomenon known as "Lisztomania." This period in the 1830s and 1840s saw him perform hundreds of concerts, earning him a reputation akin to a modern rock star. He was also instrumental in popularizing the works of other composers through his transcriptions and arrangements. In the 1850s, Liszt settled in Weimar, where he composed many of his significant works, including symphonic poems and the Piano Sonata in B Minor. His later years were spent in a more contemplative manner, as he took minor orders in the Catholic Church and focused on teaching and composition, influencing many future musicians. Liszt passed away on July 31, 1886, in Bayreuth, Germany, leaving behind a rich legacy that includes over 700 compositions and innovations in piano technique and music education.
