Ham Mill Lock, Thames & Severn Canal 16th June 2015 Interim restoration update: After months of brickwork repairs in all weathers by volunteers, new lock gates are installed. Manufactured by Messrs Hargreaves, they are made of low maintenance and durable EKKI. Throughout the work, a 30 feet long geotextile "AQUADAM", containing 800 tonnes of water, has held back the Ham Mill pound. Local residents gathered in sunshine on Ham Mill bridge to watch the day's events, including the skilful delivery of lock gates by way of a very restricted access. Considered to be the "halfway" stage in restoring this lock, substantial brickwork repairs have yet to be completed at both the head and tail of the lock, together with paddle gear installation, walkways and lock furniture. A commemorative bench, built by Cotswold Canals Trust, has been commissioned and will be installed at the site. (Look out for a heron landing in the right hand screen.) This work forms part of Phase 1a of restoration of the Cotswold Canals. To find out how you can help with this restoration, please visit: http://cotswoldcanals.com / cctfriends / cotswoldcanals
