Caesar 3, the massively popular Roman city-building game from 1998. The game that invented the walker mechanic as we know today, leading to any future city-builder that used that kind of gameplay to be called 'Impressions-like' or 'Impressions-inspired'. Over the past decade, Bianca created an open source engine replacement for Caesar 3 called Julius, which fixed up and improved the game but nothing too drastic. Being open source though, that meant the community could now mod the game as much as they wanted. It was a slow start, first with some UI enhancements and bug fixes... but now it's so much more. New buildings, new gameplay systems like sentiment, monuments and grand temples, overhauled entertainment, a slew of options, compatibility with other platforms including Linux and PS Vita, and this most recent version has introduced a proper plague and disease mechanic that revamps how sickness is spread. It's at a point where if you've completed the game before, you can replay it with Augustus for an entirely new experience.
