'Pathological liar!' House panel takes break as tensions flare over DepEd corruption accusation

A House panel hearing on Vice President Sara Duterte's fund utilization had to take a break as tensions flared over accusations of corruption in the Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday (October 17). Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel, citing his personal experience and accounts from fellow congressmen, alleged that former DepEd Usec. Epimaco Densing III was "asking for commission for the release of funds for school buildings" during his time as Duterte's apointee in charge of school infrastructure and facilities. "First of all, it's a blatant lie," Densing answered, eliciting a challenge from Pimentel to face the other congressmen with the same accusation in an executive session. The lawmaker went on to threaten Densing with a contempt citation for "lying." At that point, the committee briefly suspended its proceedings to let tempers simmer down. When the session resumed, Pimentel said he would no longer continue questioning Densing, saying he is a "pathological liar." Instead, he said, he would continue to gather more evidence to prove Densing's alleged corrupt practices during his time with the DepEd.
