SRAM vs DRAM : How SRAM Works? How DRAM Works? Why SRAM is faster than DRAM?

In this video, the differences between the SRAM and DARM has been discussed. Apart from the differences between the two memories, in this video, it has been also discussed that how DRAM and SRAM works and how the read and write operations are performed on these memories. Random Access Memories (RAM): RAM is the volatile memory, and as its name suggests, any memory cell in this memory can be accessed randomly. Two types of RAMs are quite popular and used inside the computers. 1) SRAM (Static RAM) 2) DRAM (Dynamic RAM) DRAM (Dynamic RAM): 1.DRAM is used as a main memory inside the computers. 2.It is fast compared to the primary storage memory like HDDs but it slower compared to the SRAM. 3. Typical DRAM cell (1 bit DRAM) consists of one transistor and one capacitor. 4. The bits inside the memory is stored in the form of charge across the capacitor. 5. As capacitors have some leakage current so periodic refresh cycles are required for this memory to refresh the bits. (Typically in milliseconds) SRAM (Static RAM): 1.In this memory, the bits are stored in the bistable latching circuit (Flip-Flop or two crossed coupled inverters.) 2. SRAM does not require the periodic refresh cycles. 3. It is used as cache memory inside the computer. 4. It is fastest among all the memory. 5. Typical SRAM cell consists of 6 transistors. 6. Cost per bit is more for SRAM. (Costlier than DRAM) Time stamps for the different topics covered in the video. 0:52 SRAM vs DRAM 2:54 Dynamic RAM (DRAM) 3:56 Read and Write Operations on DRAM 7:15 Static RAM (SRAM) 9:22 Read and Write Operations on SRAM This video will be helpful to all the students of science and engineering in understanding the difference between SRAM and DRAM and in understanding how SRAM and DRAM works.
