[Relaxing] Image Processing of WHIRLPOOL GALAXY (M51) by Siril for Vespera and Seestar S50 Users

Regarding the fact that Vaonis Vespera and ZWO Seestar S50 share the same image sensor from SONY IMX462 and have similar focal lengths, the images should be similar to each other in their basic imaging mode. Here is my latest work on finalizing the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51, NGC 5194) by Siril, where the original data collection under the Bortle 9 sky, the center of Tokyo, spans about a year with a total integration time of approximately 17.5 hours. As one might notice from the cover, there is a huge improvement between the old result and the current result. The key to this improvement is that I utilized the 2X drizzle technique during the final image stacking of the multiple night images. This is very much making sense to show a better result because this is 2X drizzle plus dither as the data was stacked from multiple nights. Namely, the artifact caused by 2X drizzle will be reduced as the dither occurs. Anyway, I was generally satisfied with this galaxy result from the 2MP sensor. Considering the data was collected from the Bortle 9 sky, it is surprising to reveal the starry cloud at the periphery of the companion galaxy (NGC 5195). - - - Imaging Details - - - Deep Sky Object: Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) Date: July 2023 – April 2024 (11 nights) Bortle Class: 8–9 Zone (Tokyo, Japan) Observation Device: Vespera (200mm f/4, Pixel Size: 2.9 µm) Filter: No filter Integration: 17 hrs 31 mins 30 secs Sub-frames: 6,309 RAW TIFF files for stacking were generated via Singularity app (Vaonis) Image processing device and software: - - - Vespera mark 1 Observation Station: Vespera is a portable observation station, the perfect combination of telescope and camera.
