Darbar Mahal For over two centuries, Bahawalpur was under the rule of the Abbasi family, who significantly contributed to the region's development. Their legacy includes the creation of magnificent palaces, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and architectural brilliance. One such remarkable structure situated in Bahawalpur City is the Darbar Mahal. Built in 1904 by Nawab Bahawal Khan-V, originally named Bahawal Garh, the palace was completed in 1905 and dedicated to one of the Nawab's wives. Constructed primarily from red brick, the Darbar Mahal mirrors the architectural style of Lahore Fort. It features four domes interconnected by short corridors. The palace displays an exquisite blend of red and white; with white dominating the roofline and windows, while the external walls are adorned in red. Initially serving as the Regional Court of Bahawalpur State, this palace was utilized by Nawab Abbas Abbasi. In recent decades, it has functioned as an army office. To visit this regal palace, visitors must obtain prior permission from the Pakistan Army.
