The Ford SuperVan 4.2 EV set a blistering pace at the Mount Panorama circuit last weekend, adding a few more records to the one-off model's already impressive resume. It now holds the title of fastest closed-wheeler, electric vehicle and commercial model on the 6.85-mile course that hosts the Bathurst 500 race. The SuperVan 4.2's record-breaking lap was 1 minute 56.3247 seconds. To put this time into perspective, Mercedes touted setting a new fastest time earlier during the Bathurst 500 celebrations when a specially modified AMG GT3 lapped the track in 1:56.605, 0.2803 seconds slower than Ford's electric van. The SuperVan 4.2 was driven to the finish line by two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Romain Dumas. He is no stranger to achieving such feats, including achieving the fastest times with the Volkswagen ID R on courses such as the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Nürburgring Nordschleife and the Goodwood Speed Hillclimb Festival. Last year, Dumas and the SuperVan 4.2 set a new record in the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb Open Class, completing the 12.5-mile course in 8:47.682, beating the previous fastest time of 9:24.433. The company also went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the SuperVan 4.0. The SuperVan 4.2 is an evolution of the previous 4.0 version, with a new carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler to increase downforce. Three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, produce a total of 1,400 horsepower. The design is loosely based on the Ford e-Transit Custom, but the reworked rear end with large openings in the bodywork is unlike anything you'll see on the road. The SuperVan 4.2 will also be on display at the Adelaide Festival of Speed from 15-17 March. It will then be displayed at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix later in the month. "We have more plans for this but they're confidential for now, but rest assured we have some exciting ideas," Ford Performance spokesman Jay Ward told Motor1. said.
