Big Corn Island & Travel Tips for Corn Islands, Nicaragua

#CornIslands #BigCornIsland #CarribeanNicaragua After spending a week on Little Corn Island we took the 30 minute panga (shuttle boat) to Big Corn Island where we had 2 days at Paraiso Hostel before flying back to Managua. The Corn Islands are renowned for scuba diving and snorkelling with the chance to see nurse sharks, eagle rays and a whole variety of fish and corals. Also, right next to Paraiso hostel and near the dock are two shipwrecks around 100m from shore so try to check them out if you're in the area. If you're feeling more adventurous there is an older shipwreck to the North of the island where you can see the cannons buried in the sand - we didn't manage to make it there but were told about it. We also rented bikes for $2 an hour and rode around Big Corn Island. It's a gentle ride with very little traffic and I would highly recommend that you do it. Stop off at a beachside restaurant for lunch! In terms of travel tips for the Corn Islands: We booked our flight through Paraiso for $180 US dollars which included 2 nights at the hostel. We used these at the end of our trip because we got the boat to Little Corn as soon as we landed. It also meant that we could just get up and fly out in the morning instead of having to get the boat and then the plane. Taxis from the airport to the port (and to hostels) are at a fixed rate of $1 There's no ATM on Little Corn Island so you need to bring cash from Big Corn or Managua. A lot of the places charge a large fee to use card. We were paying around $90 a night at Little Corn Bed & Breakfast but you can also stay in the beach shacks (like Grace's Cool Place or Carlito's place) for $25 a night. A week is enough on the Corn Islands, unless you intend on doing more scuba diving. There isn't a whole lot there....which is sort of the whole point of going. It's a beautiful Caribbean paradise where you just relax.
