This grandfather clock is a custom made clock by a young local cabinet maker from back in 1966. It is made of solid English 3/4"thick mahogany plank boards, no veneer. It wasn't finished when I bought it and I made the mounting brackets to mount the clock as well as the chimes. Instead of like factory clocks I made a separate tone board out of sitka spruce, something most manufactured clocks don't have, and mounted the chimes on a sound board. This gave the clock a sounding board like a piano or any other instrument. It has rod chimes but sounds much bigger in sound and tone due to the tone board. I also custom designed the clock hood, it has only two screws in the back along with roller latches that secure the hood. For oiling and cleaning you just unscrew the two screws and the entire hood pulls forward and removes leaving the mechanism open for servicing. The other Ridgeway grandfather clock I have couldn't compare to this custom home made clock as far as cabinetry, and sound goes. My aunt and my mom took this clock up to the cabinet maker in my aunt's truck, and he custom made the two doors. This clock has a lot more sentimental value than any factory made clock could ever have. It has lots of volume that resonates a deep rich tone all over the house due to the sound board.spruce.
