Here's a tribute piece to Carl Sonny Leyland, a great friend and mentor to me, and a master of barrelhouse and boogie-woogie piano. Sonny showed me a lot about how to play the Cow Cow Davenport style in the key of Db (Slum Gullion Stomp , Atlanta Rag etc.) which this tune is inspired by. Sonny has an inimitable style, so I am by no means trying to play like him here. But, he was on my mind as began messing around with the ideas in this tune, so it instantly felt like a tribute to him. I can't play this style without thinking of him. Thank you Sonny!
