This 1911 was discovered as you see it in its original holster underneath many cardboard boxes stacked several feet high, tucked away in the closet of my late Grandmother's condo. Three rounds of .45 ACP were found stored in the pistol's original magazine. I can only presume these were first loaded in 1918 (as indicated by the headstamp) and the gun was then left alone for over a century until it crossed paths with me. Research shows this pistol dates to late July 1918 when Colt was hitting it's all time monthly production numbers. Shipments at that time were bypassing the armories and depots and were being sent directly to the piers in New York and New Jersey, headed for Europe. Colt was not shipping in numerical order then, but I can narrow this pistol to one of two shipments, July 22 or 27. Both went to Ordnance Depot, Bush Terminal, Brooklyn, NY.
