His tomb is near the Shalimar Gardens of Lahore. Shalimar Gardens were built in 1641-1642 by Shah Jahan the Mughal Emperor who also built Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Shah Hussains death anniversary or Urs is celebrated in Lahore as Mela-e Charaaghaan or the Festival of Lamps. Charaagh is a small oil based lamp made of clay. It is one of the major annual celebrations in Pakistani Punjab when charaaghs are lit in the Shalimar Gardens. Shah Hussain is considered to be one of the pioneers of kafi writing. Kafis are poems, mostly in Punjabi, Saraiki, and Sindhi which are based on Sufi themes. Shah Hussains kafis are short poems in which each single line is a unit and contains a refrain (radeef) and/or rhyme (qafia).
