“Trauma” is the most recent track by the bards from Coimbra. An intense and fast paced track mixing influences from Black Metal and Death Metal, it’s Aoidos’ first track with portuguese lyrics and with their full lineup, including their pianist Erlkönig, who composed a beautiful piano piece inspired by Sergei Rachmaninoff that weaves itself perfectly with the intricate guitar work and Freitas’ and Ekid’s layered vocals. An assault on the senses with a little ethereal reprieve in the middle, this song turns “Trauma” into a living, tormenting being that sees itself not as an oppressor, but as a protector, a shield between the victim and the true extent of the tragedies they went through. “Trauma” seems the easier answer, to forget, to twist the tragedies in a paper ball and throw it out the proverbial window, easier than facing what scars and scares humans. But, in the end, “Trauma” is an unreasonable force that can’t be argued with, and that will control one’s life if left unchecked.
