2019 Upper Brazeau Expedition. Bretton Beisel and myself hiked fifteen kms through Nigel pass and put-in at Four Points campground in Jasper National Park. From there we paddled through the South Fork canyon. We chose to rename some rapids so feel free to follow along or go with the originals found in the Stuart Smith Guidebook. The rapids we paddled in order during first canyon were: Enter the Kraken, Ear Dip, Twizzler, Caveman, Anal Cavity and Mr.Clean. From the first canyon we paddled to the confluence of the North and South Fork Brazeau. We hiked to Brazeau lake and ran what we believe is a first descent on the North Fork Brazeau. The whitewater character there was similar too the Mistaya River with mostly class III and a rapid or two that might go to IV at high water There was one class V rapid we called Choo-Choo-Boulder Mank. From the confluence it was a long paddle to the Forestry Trunk Road bridge. There was one other canyon containing crystal falls and a few other surprise bedrock rapids along the way. Enjoy.
