Be reminded that slow speed point motors rely on a constant current feed to hold the blades in position once the spring are removed from the points. At its simplest, each motor (motor 1 on the outer switch blades and motor 2 on the inner switch blades as per the diagram) could be controlled by separate polarity change-over switches if the operator is prepared to tolerate that the outer blades may trap the inner blades until the operator controls motor 1 to release the trap. An improvement is to inhibit the feed to motor 2 when the blades are trapped by using a change-over-switch built into motor 1. However, this does not solve the case when setting route 3 where both blades simultaneously need to be set to the left as simultaneous operation can never be achieved elegantly with two separate switches. Hence in diagram the independent switches are replaced by a 4 pole, 3 way rotary switch wired so that position 1 selects route 1, position 2 selects route 2, and position 3 selects route 3.
