I’m Not Ok

i wrote this song because i needed to speak my heart once i lost my mom at 16 to cancer. People would tell me that i was going to be ok, that it’s ok, that things would be ok. But that just made me push down my emotions more and the reality was that i was NOT ok and i was only trying to be ok for others so they didn’t have to worry. i drowned my pain in substance and just bad choices all around and it took me over a year to actually cope with what had happened. I lost my mom. I don’t struggle with substances anymore and i’ve healed in a lot of ways (i even got married) but the reality is that even though it’s been 3 1/2 years it doesn’t matter how many years will pass, i will never be ok with the loss of my mom (Dana Lauren Jackson born June 30th 1969, died April 15 2021, Age 51) but i have learned to keep living and i strive to honor her all my days and that includes sharing my music that she always hoped i’d share. #love #mom #music #loss #imnotokay #youllbeokay #fyp #newmusic #singer #americanidol
