Hi went on a service call today for a circa 1895 Polyphon upright 24.5 inch disc playing music box. A gentleman had purchased this beautifully crafted Polyphon Musical Disc Player in Germany. Originally it was coin operated for just a penny it would play the song . If you wanted a different song I guess the proprietor of the establishment would come over and use a key to open the disc storage cabinet below and then put on the song of choice. The music box has the original cabinet keys but the coin slot system is gone and replaced with a manual start stop. Polyphons were made in Germany but they opened a plant in New Jersey in the l880s know as the "Regina" music box company. For most models the discs are interchangeable.
