Traditional Chicken Popti | चिकन पोपटी | Village Cooking Maharashtra | Red Soil Stories

Episode 33 Namaste, We are Shirish and Pooja and Welcome to "Chicken Popti" Special Episode of ‪@RedSoilStories‬ It was an year end's evening, I and Pooja were collecting Betel nuts from a farm. Since it was 31st december I remembered one of fried from Raigad who makes Chicken Popti on the new year's eve. While returning back home I asked Pooja if we can prepare Popti for the dinner. Traditional Chicken Popti is a challenge to prepare and needs lot of time, that's the reason Pooja hesitated for making it but I think she was preparing for it already. Popti is a traditionally made Chicken recipe which is mostly prepared in Raigad district of Maharashtra during the winter season and when certain crops are ready like Lima beans and Bhamburdi leaves ( Pavtyachi Val ani Bhamburdicha pala). It is often prepare for dinner as it take a wood fire to cook it. All the ingredients are put in the clay pot and the pot is cooked in fire. Pooja asked me to get Guava Leaves ( Peruchi Paane ) while coming back home. She had already started preparing for Chicken Popti. She took Corn, Potato and marinated with Salt and spices ( Malwani Masala), She also took Green peas ( Matar ) and Paapdi Peas ( Val paapdi ) to make popti. I returned home with Guava leaves and Pooja again sent me to get some chicken. After I got the chicken, she marinaed it with green paste and other spices and salt. After everything was everything was marinated Pooja started assembling the popti recipe layer by layer. Meanwhile I collected the cow dung cakes, some dried grass and wood for the fire to cook popti. After everything is assembled, we put the clay pot filled with the ingredients in the fire and cooked it for more than half an hour. Once it was cooked we took it out of the clay pot and enjoyed it as our 31st eve dinner with uncle and aunty. Watch the full episode and let us know how do you liked it..!
