Baking high poly geometry to low poly texture is a crucial step in creating realistic 3D models, and Substance Painter makes it easy with its powerful baking tools. In this tutorial, I'll show you some essential tips and techniques for mastering baking within Substance Painter. I'll cover the latest Baking UI from version 8.3, however, these tips will work for older versions of Substance Painter as well. I'll be using Maya to export geometry, but you can use any 3D software. I'll start by optimizing our high poly mesh, preparing it for baking, and then proceed to set up the baking process. I'll explore various baking methods. I'll also cover ID masks, which allow us to isolate different parts of the mesh and apply different textures to each one.
